Scan a QR code from an image or screenshot

Drop a photo or paste a screenshot to see what the code contains before you open anything. It runs on your device: the image is never uploaded.

How to read a QR code from an image

  1. Add the image: choose it, drop it or paste a screenshot.
  2. See what it contains. Links show their domain, Wi-Fi codes show the password, and contacts show their details.
  3. Copy or open it only when you are happy with what you see. With several images, export everything to CSV.

Why read a code here rather than with your phone’s camera

Private by design

Many online readers upload your image to a server. Here the image is decoded in your browser. That matters when the code holds a Wi-Fi password, a ticket or a payment link.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes. It is 100% free, with no usage limits, no account, no sign-up, no watermark and no paid plan.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Your images are processed inside your browser and never leave your device. The page only downloads its own code from this site. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics receives anonymous usage data such as page views, never your files, their names or the contents of your codes.

How do I scan a QR code that is on my own screen?

Take a screenshot, then paste it here with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V, or drop the file on the page. On a phone, save the image and choose it from your gallery.

How do I see a Wi-Fi password from a QR code?

Add an image of the code. If it is a Wi-Fi code, the page shows the network name, password and security type.

Why was no code found?

The most common causes are a blurry or very small code, strong reflections, or a code cut off at the edge. Crop close to the code and try again. Use a sharper image if you can.

Is it safe to open the link?

The page shows the real domain before you open anything, and warns about IP addresses and encoded domains. Nothing opens by itself. That check does not prove a site is safe: if you do not recognise the domain, do not enter any details there.

Can it read barcodes too?

In browsers with the built-in barcode detector, such as Chrome on Mac or Android, it also reads EAN, UPC, Code 128 and others, and can find several codes in one image. Elsewhere it reads one QR code per image.

Analytics: only if you accept cookies, the page loads Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) to count visits and see which tools are used. It never receives your files, your text or the contents of your codes. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of the page.
